Queensland service provider Carinity, which operates across aged, disability and community care, has appointed senior executive Kevin Griffiths as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Griffiths joins Carinity after a two-year stint at Uniting Church (Queensland) where he was the Executive Directive Shared Services, and one year at the Aveo Group as Chief Strategy and Digital Officer.

Although Mr Griffiths’ career has led to the care sector, he had a globetrotting 30-year career in the international airline industry. What started as a technical apprenticeship in the United Kingdom led to numerous roles with British Airways, Ansett, Boeing and ultimately the Emirates Group as Senior Vice President of Business Technology Solutions.

There, he helped introduce key tools to improve staff efficiency, including the addition of Windows tablets to cabin crew in 2012. This helped reduce their reliance on paper documents and strengthened communication; a simple but effective initiative.

But after taking a sabbatical to settle back in Australia, Mr Griffiths found himself drawn to not-for-profit organisations, including faith-based organisations with shared beliefs.

Carinity, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary year, presented an exciting opportunity for the experienced leader.

“From humble beginnings, Carinity has grown into a significant organisation, touching the lives of thousands of people,” Mr Griffiths said.

“We exist to show God’s love through the care we offer to those in need. We make a real difference to those around us – not just by what we do but by why and how we do it.”

Mr Griffths succeeds Interim CEO David Angell, an experienced board member, who helped smooth over the transition period after Jon Campbell departed in March, 2023, after 14 years with the organisation.

“David made a significant difference at Carinity and to those who we serve,” Mr Griffiths said.

“Under his leadership, Carinity launched a number of new community projects. This included the Sunflower House disability respite home at Kalbar, and the expansion of disability support services in Beaudesert and Narangba.”

Carinity Council Chair, Richard Wray, said Kevin has a passion for the impact that faith-based not-for-profit organisations make in the lives of the people they serve.

“Kevin is passionate about people, customers, strategy, and technology. He has a heart to work with and through people to achieve great things,” he added.

“His personal faith, integrity, skills, and experience are a good fit with the unique requirements of the role. We are keen for him to lead an expansion of the impact Carinity has on people across the state.”

Carinity operates 11 residential care facilities, with five of them co-located with retirement villages across Queensland. It also provides home care, disability support, chaplaincy and youth and family services.
