Next generation technology to be highlighted at ACCPA National Conference
Last updated on 4 October 2023
Technology continues to have an evolving impact on the aged care industry. Its presence offers increased efficiency and support for busy staff while residents – and even family members – enjoy additional peace of mind knowing safety and security are constantly being improved. The sector is well and truly buoyed by innovation and expertise from aged care leaders.
Those leaders never rest, with one eye always firmly looking at progress. That’s certainly true for Alexys International which has been at the forefront of innovation for decades.
Focused on creating homelike environments that incorporate high levels of security, safety and accountability, Alexys is a recognised leader for nurse call solutions in aged care and health care settings. Their systems and tech solutions provide high levels of reassurance for providers, particularly in the fall detection and prevention space.
The risk of hospitalisation due to a fall increases dramatically with age:
- 60% of hospitalisations for falls in 2021-22 were for people aged 65 and over
- 94% of fall-related deaths occurred in people aged 65 and over in 2020-21
- More than one-fifth of all falls are within aged care settings, increasing the health and financial burden placed on aged care and healthcare providers
- Falls are the cause of 40% of injury-related deaths, while the “long lie” – someone remains on the ground for more than an hour after a fall – is associated with high mortality rates
Technology already plays a critical role in fall prevention and detection, but Alexys has further honed its craft to build advanced systems that can be implemented by any provider today. These products will be on show at the upcoming ACCPA National Conference in Adelaide from October 25-27, giving providers the perfect opportunity to explore the next generation of aged care technology.
“We are super excited here at Alexys to show the industry our latest products at the ACCPA National Conference, we can’t wait to see everyone and discuss the newest innovations,” Alexys Marketing Director Bart Williams expressed.
What’s on offer?
Leading the way for Alexys is the next-generation fall detection system, Vayyar. Born from a need to capture missing data – 26% of falls are not self-reported to carers, friends or family – Vayyar is a discreet observational tool prioritising privacy and safety.
Boosted by machine learning and artificial intelligence, Vayyar is a radar sensor device that’s as discreet as any smoke alarm. Yet it can detect the resident presence and suspected or definite falls with current results from existing units resulting in rapid 90-second response times to falls and an 85% strike rate for falls that would be otherwise unreported.
Its cloud architecture offers complete interoperability so it can be integrated with existing systems, including Alexys’ trademark nurse call system. Their integrated nurse call solutions can already be found in countless facilities, with the newest tools easy to add on.
“Catholic Healthcare did extensive market research prior to selecting the new nurse call system for our flagship site Mackillop House, Norwest. The Alexys Unity system was by far the most technically advanced solution. We would recommend using Alexys for your new build or refurbishment,” Catholic Healthcare Chief Information Officer (CIO) Brett Reedman explained.
Providers interested in Alexys systems also have the chance to speak directly with the experts over the latest Alexys Aptus CMS firmware updates taking Aptus Air and Aptus Unity nurse call systems to the next level. There’s now double functionality which means calls can be easily escalated with a long press feature, with all data tracked and reported for internal and external auditing purposes.
This world-class solution can be easily integrated into existing facilities with a gradual rollout for providers looking to move at their own pace. Providers will have an extra tool to keep up with Government reporting, provide essential care and maximise staff efficiency and impact.
For operators after strong security, new indoor positioning and resident real-time location services (RTLS) deliver accurate monitoring in shared spaces plus crucial care minute recording data for compliance purposes.
This technology can easily be incorporated into Alexys’ advanced CCTV network and critical messaging system. As a result, you have the choice to elevate resident safety through thermal and facial recognition technology that detects visitors and staff with fevers, plus blacklisted or whitelisted visitors. Not only does this help automate the sign-in process to free up administration staff, but it also delivers real-time alerts for more serious situations requiring instant action.
These innovations are just some of the exciting products and systems on offer from Alexys. More information is available on the Alexys website, or you can visit them at the ACCPA National Conference in Adelaide on October 25-27 for first-hand insights and demonstrations.
