Life in a retirement community is portrayed as being easy-going, engaging and supportive for the residents who live there. The very last thing a retirement village provider wants is a difficult, time-consuming maintenance and repair process that leaves residents feeling ignored or frustrated.

Aged care asset management and maintenance provider MFDM has devised a simple and effective app, Log-It, to streamline hazard reporting and maintenance requests in retirement villages.

MDFM Log-It was specifically designed to make it easier for retirement village residents and their visitors to report any issues or hazards they might find in and around their properties.

It adds another layer to village maintenance and management coordination. Problems that can be reported include electrical faults, plumbing issues, air conditioning concerns or any other potential hazard on a property.

Everyday maintenance issues like these can often be left unattended when residents or visitors do not have clear communication pathways with facility management. Any delay to repairs for essential things like climate control or plumbing could result in negative outcomes for residents.

The Log-It app has been designed with a focus on resident and visitor usability. A streamlined design, clear large font and logical sequencing of steps means hazards and maintenance requests can be reported in less than three minutes.

Users start by adding their name and contact details before selecting their village from the available options. Then all they have to do is report the issue they wish to be resolved and your facility management team will be instantly notified.

Images can be attached for greater clarity while 24/7 support is available if users run into any technical problems. Users can also keep track of reported issues, providing greater transparency over the progress of their pressing concerns.

Not only does this streamline communication – there’s no double handling of messages or reliance on word of mouth – but it also streamlines the maintenance process. Quicker response times from retirement village providers result in impactful repairs and better outcomes for residents.

Importantly, the app has been designed for retirement village operators who either lack a CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) or have one in place that is not user-friendly for residents or visitors.

Data collected through MDFM Log-It can also be used for additional insights into a village’s overall property health. This can help with future decisions regarding maintenance schedules, resource allocation and long-term infrastructure planning.

For example, if you notice recurring trends like repeated blocked drains it could mean there is a widespread plumbing problem. Additionally, regular reports regarding tree debris or low-hanging branches might mean your current maintenance schedule is not suitable for the conditions.

Effective solutions can easily be implemented because of the data collected.

MDFM Log-It is available for free download via the Google Play Store (Android) and the App Store (iOS). User requests are collated into a portal which MDFM manage and provides access to. A QR code can be provided for residents to further simplify access to the request system.

Retirement village operators can contact MDFM to find out how the Log-It can be used in their village.
